A leader in automotive safety, Ford has spread the safety net over, throughout and around its whole line up.
For the F-150, it starts with an industry first, hydroformed steel body structure that features ultra-high-strength steel. And it just continues on from there with the boat load of safety features.
There are some really darn good reasons why the F-150 has earned top crash test ratings, and many of them are standard features. The most important part is that these features will save your arse from going over tea-kettle!
STANDARD FEATURES:
Front Side-Impact Airbags
Mounted in the outboard sides of the front seatbacks, these airbags help provide the driver and front passenger with upper-body protection in certain side-impact collisions.
Safety Canopy™ System
In the event of a side-impact collision, or a roll-over, this system has side-curtain airbags that drop down from the headliner along the side of the cab to protect both front and back seat passengers who are seated by the windows.
There is even a unique roll-fold technology that helps the airbag to properly deploy even if a passenger’s head is resting against the side glass.
AdvanceTrac®
In a situation where you’re tires are spinning and you’re not going in the direction you intended, AdvanceTrac® makes automatic corrections to help bring the vehicle back onto the path you wanted.
Roll Stability Control (RSC®)
Roll Stability Control features gyroscopic sensors that work with the AdvanceTrac® system to constantly monitor the vehicle’s horizontal attitude. If the vehicle approaches a critical rollover angle, the RSC® system auto-activates the F-150’s AdvanceTrac® system to help the vehicle regain stability.
Trailer Sway Control
An industry exclusive feature, it works with the RSC® and AdvanceTrac® to lessen trailer sway. When the sensors detect any swaying they signal the other systems to intervene – by either applying precise braking and/or reducing engine torque – to help bring the vehicle and trailer back under control.
Personal Safety System
It’s a sophisticated system of sensors, safety belt features and airbag controls that adjust airbag deployment to match crash severity and enhance protection of the driver and front-seat passenger.
4-Wheel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
By automatically pulsing the appropriate brake or brakes when wheel lock-up is detected, ABS prevents skidding and helps the driver maintain vehicle control on slippery roads or during extreme braking maneuvers.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Sensors inside the rim of each tire continuously monitor the pressure of each tire. If and when a sensor detects a drop below recommended pressure levels, you’ll be notified by an instrument panel light and an audible tone.
MORE FEATURES:
Autolock/Unlock Door Function
This feature automatically locks the doors when the vehicle reaches 8km/h (5mph) and then unlocks them again when the transmission is shifted into Park.
This feature prevents from dangers like exiting from the vehicle while it is moving and could also prevent a possible, but very unlikely, hijacker from stealing your vehicle while you’re driving.
Brake Assist
Recognizes when the brake pedal is applied quickly, but not enough to stop the vehicle fully. The system adds pressure to maximize deceleration and shorten stopping distances, which without the system could be undesirably longer stopping distances.
Once the driver releases the brake pedal, the vehicle returns to its normal braking mode.
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
The EBD sends just the right amount of braking pressure to the rear tires at all times and under a variety of loads and conditions.
Basically, the EBD prevents the vehicle from nose diving into the pavement when you step on the brakes too hard. It applies pressure to the back tires to keep you planted and sink into the road instead of going head-over-heels.
